RIGGER 3,2,1 WPR
Description
The roles of Rigger and Crane Operator are among the most essential in large-scale construction and industrial projects, especially within the oil and gas sector. These professionals play a critical part in ensuring that heavy materials and equipment are safely moved, lifted, and positioned with precision. Within ARAMCO projects, where operational excellence and safety standards are exceptionally high, the work of a qualified Rigger or Crane Operator is fundamental to project success. Their contribution ensures that every stage of lifting, transport, and equipment setup runs smoothly, efficiently, and without incident, forming a cornerstone of safe project execution.
Key Responsibilities
A Rigger’s primary responsibility is to prepare, inspect, and secure loads before lifting operations. They attach cables, slings, or chains to loads and communicate closely with crane operators to guide movements using standard hand or radio signals. Depending on the level—Rigger 1, Rigger 2, or Rigger 3—the scope of their duties may range from assisting with simple lifts to planning and supervising complex rigging operations.
Crane Operators, on the other hand, handle mobile and crawler cranes for heavy lifting activities on-site. They are responsible for operating cranes safely, conducting pre-operation checks, and ensuring that all lifting activities comply with project and ARAMCO safety standards. Operators of the 25-ton, 55-ton, and 85-ton cranes must demonstrate precision, technical skill, and situational awareness to execute lifts without errors or hazards.
Skills and Knowledge
Riggers and Crane Operators must possess strong technical and safety knowledge, including understanding load charts, lifting techniques, and weight distribution principles. Certification from authorized bodies such as TUV or ARAMCO approval is a major advantage. Riggers must have expertise in using rigging equipment and understanding safety procedures under high-pressure environments. For Crane Operators, hands-on experience with XCMG models like the QY25K5L, XGC55, and XGC85 is essential, alongside the ability to troubleshoot mechanical or hydraulic issues.
In addition, both roles demand physical fitness, teamwork, and strong communication skills to coordinate seamlessly with engineers, signalmen, and supervisors. Attention to detail, adherence to safety regulations, and a commitment to continuous improvement are vital traits that ensure operational safety and project efficiency.
