This professional ensures that every activity within the site aligns with the highest safety regulations and operational protocols. The Safety Officer’s primary mission is to prevent accidents, monitor compliance, and foster a culture of safety awareness among all workers. In high-risk environments such as industrial plants, refineries, and mechanical construction sites, their expertise is vital to maintaining productivity without compromising worker well-being. Their role also enhances the company’s reputation for maintaining world-class safety standards, an essential requirement for long-term projects in regions like Jubail, one of Saudi Arabia’s major industrial zones.
Key Responsibilities
The Safety Officer is responsible for overseeing all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) procedures on site. This includes conducting daily inspections, risk assessments, and toolbox talks to ensure compliance with Aramco’s safety codes. The officer must identify potential hazards, recommend corrective actions, and verify the implementation of safety measures. Additional duties involve maintaining detailed safety documentation, preparing incident and near-miss reports, and coordinating with project supervisors to enforce site rules. They also play an educational role by training workers on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency response techniques. Furthermore, Safety Officers collaborate closely with QCs, WPRs, and engineers to guarantee that all tasks are performed under safe and approved conditions, reducing downtime and preventing workplace incidents.
Skills and Knowledge
A qualified Safety Officer must have Aramco approval, which reflects their competence in managing high-standard industrial safety systems. They should possess formal certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent safety training. A deep understanding of occupational safety laws, environmental regulations, and hazard control procedures is essential. The candidate must be able to read and interpret safety manuals, risk matrices, and project safety plans. Good communication and leadership skills are critical for influencing workers to follow HSE guidelines consistently.
