Safety Officer, Work Permit Receiver (WPR), and Fire Watch
Job Title: Safety Officer, Work Permit Receiver (WPR), and Fire Watch
Description
The positions of Safety Officer, Work Permit Receiver (WPR), and Fire Watch are essential roles in maintaining safety, compliance, and operational efficiency on construction and industrial sites—especially in high-standard environments such as Maaden projects. Each position contributes uniquely to ensuring that all work activities are conducted safely, legally, and according to industry regulations. Safety Officers are responsible for enforcing safety procedures and reducing risks, WPRs ensure work permits are correctly issued and followed, while Fire Watch personnel stand as the first line of defense against potential fire hazards. Together, they form the backbone of workplace safety and regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities
A Safety Officer is tasked with overseeing safety programs, inspecting work areas, conducting toolbox talks, and ensuring full compliance with company and project HSE standards. They identify potential hazards, provide safety training, and respond promptly to incidents or violations.
The Work Permit Receiver (WPR) plays a crucial role in coordinating with supervisors and site management to obtain, manage, and close work permits for all on-site activities. Their precision and understanding of job risk assessments ensure that no work is performed without proper authorization and safety clearance.
The Fire Watch personnel remain vigilant during hot work operations, such as welding or cutting, to prevent and respond quickly to any sparks, flames, or unsafe conditions. They are trained to monitor fire safety equipment and immediately report any emergencies. Collectively, these roles ensure continuous safety oversight, effective communication, and regulatory compliance at every stage of the project.
Skills and Knowledge
To perform these roles effectively, candidates must possess strong technical and safety-related expertise. Safety Officers should have in-depth knowledge of occupational health and safety laws, risk management principles, and emergency response protocols. WPRs are expected to understand permit-to-work systems, worksite procedures, and coordination techniques to maintain control over daily operations. Fire Watch personnel should be trained in fire prevention, use of extinguishing equipment, and safety monitoring during high-risk tasks.
Essential qualifications include a valid Iqama, Ajeer registration, and relevant safety or technical certifications (TUV, NEBOSH, or equivalent preferred). Experience in industrial or construction environments, particularly on Maaden or similar projects, is highly valued. Effective communication skills, teamwork, and strong attention to detail are mandatory to ensure safety standards are met consistently.
